While the story is compelling and interesting, many of its plot points are predictable as all hell. I lost interest about half an hour ago, it felt like things should have been wrapped up but it just keeps going on and on and on. At the time of writing this, I have 1 hour and 14 minutes left. This book just doesn’t know when to stop. 1-5 scale and what it means: 1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad 2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing 3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive 3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love 4: Solid mind candy / worth reading 4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read 5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure Even though I have not finished, the writing is good, so I'm giving this a 3/3.5 rating. I love the idea of this kind of adventure. Right now this is a "did not finish." However, I plan to come back when things are a bit calmer in my life. This makes me think it's me, not the story. Other than my brain not clicking into the story, I have nothing to complain about. The writing is clean, the narration is good. The time jumps, along with the large cast of characters made it hard to settle into the story which looks to be a good one. Perhaps if I was reading it, I'd be able to keep the jumping back and for in time in place. I'm two hours in and have no idea what's going on. The back and forth in time left me confused Please feel free to comment on whether you found my review helpful. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review. There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence, i do not recall any swearing. This was to good effect since the characters were of differing nationalities. He used different accents to differentiate. Despite this, he adds emotion to the story and characters which helps bring the story alive. I think his style made the pauses feel longer than they actually were though. His cadence is such I never forgot I was being read to, he often pauses for quite a while at the end of each sentence or what seems to be where a comma would be. This is the first book I have listened to by this narrator ( Kenneth Bryant ) and I would listen to another. If anyone but Hiram manages to get control of the Incan gold, the fate of the country is in peril. Personalities clash and the lives of all the members of the expedition become threatened. We learn that there are people on the expedition with opposing beliefs (Catholic and Incan) and many peoples agendas oppose the intent of Hiram’s search for the city. The team lead by Hiram is looking for the lost Incan city. If this was a true story, I could easily see there being these separate agendas and true purposes behind the desire to find the Lost City. Through this story, we are given glimpses into the Incan culture, current conditions of the people of Peru, and tidbits about the Spanish control. Each book is a separate, stand alone adventure. I don’t imagine I will listen to it again, but I would not object to listening to another in this series. I found this story to be great for entertainment. This is the first book I have read/listened to by this author.
